The Best Beaches in Scotland
The north of the British isles is where you’ll find some of the countries most beautiful beaches, amongst dramatic landscapes, making the shores well worth a visit.
Scotland is famed for its powder-white beaches and pristine waters. Not sure where to visit? Here are just a few of our favourites.
1. Coral Beach
Location: Isle of Skye
Coral Beach looks like something out of a tropical island. With its crystalline waters and white sands, it’s the perfect place to spend a sunny weekend with the family. Despite its name, the sands are actually created by bleached seaweed.
2. Portobello Beach
Location: Edinburgh
Less than two miles from the city centre of Edinburgh, Portobello Beach is popular with sunbathers, dog walkers and swimmers throughout the year. It’s packed by a busy promenade, which offers an excellent choice of bars and restaurants.
3. Aberdeen Beach
Location: Aberdeen
Another beach that’s just a few miles from the city, Aberdeen Beach is popular among locals and visitors alike. Along its sands you’ll find a leisure centre, family funfair and a choice of restaurants.
4. Luskentyre Sands
Location: Stornoway
Luskentyre Sands is one of the largest beaches on the west coast, boasting miles of white sands and aquamarine shores. The surrounding area also provides plenty of routes for walkers and those taking along their mountain bikes to make the most of the dramatic scenery.
5. Balnakeil Beach
Location: Durness
Balnakeil Beach is a beautiful stretch of coastline, sitting right at the top of Scotland. Best-known for its large dunes and spectacular sunsets, you’ll easily spend the whole day relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous views here!
